Привативные глаголы в английском и украинском языках. Часть 1. Каузативная семантика

Abstract

The present article highlights theoretical issues of privative verbs (hereafter PVs) pointing at coexistence of three heterogeneous linguistic categories in their semantic structure: causativity, possessivity and negation. In the process of the study semantic classification of PVs into 3 types (PVs of instrumental, social and verbal causation) based on causative component of PVs meaning is carried out enabling to come to generalizations and conclusions as for the features common and distinctive of English and Ukrainian.
