Abstract


The article discusses the Standard English pronunciation from the point of view of native British speakers and users of the English language abroad. The article represents a review of existing approaches to Received Pronunciation which is regarded by many as the English spoken norm and attitudes to alternative types of pronunciation which are becoming popular in the UK and abroad.
