A cognitive-semantic analysis of the metaphorical representation of the concept «life» in literary discourse (based on the English language literary texts of 19-20th centuries)
Abstract
The major objective of this study is to provide insight into the key role of metaphorical expressions in the conceptualization and proper understanding of the LIFE concept, generated in literary discourse. With this aim in mind, examples related to the conceptual domain of LIFE from literary texts of famous American and English authors of the 19-20th centuries are reviewed. Many-correspondence metaphors that are constituent parts of a more general conceptual metaphor LIFE IS A JOURNEY are described.
